How to Get Abs
Getting ripped, six pack abs is one of the most common fitness goals out there. But it’s no easy task without the right plan in place.
A toned midsection essentially takes the right combination of diet and exercise. But I’m going to break it down for you, and get to the nitty gritty of it all. There are a number of specific ab-building strategies that can get you results in half the time.
Remember, getting abs is about more than doing crunches! Ab exercises will build your abdominal muscles, but in order to see them, you have to trim the fat off your waistline!
Let’s get to it! Here’s how to get abs…
How to Get Ripped Abs in 7 Easy Steps
Step 1 to Ripped Abs: Start Doing Cardio – Before you do anything else, you need to start moving your body. You can’t target fat loss, which means you need to think about overall calorie expenditure. Whether it’s running outdoors or using a stationary bike, cardio will get you burning the fat. Try this Ultimate Treadmill workout to really show 6 pack abs as soon as possible.
Step 2 to Ripped Abs: Cut the Fat – The next thing you need to do is clean up your diet. Before you get to what you should eat, you need to think about what you shouldn’t – and that’s fat and sugar. Trans and saturated fats, like those found in greasy and fried foods, are going to make your efforts at the gym impossible. And sugar is no better – if it’s not all used up, it’s converted into fat deposits. Try and focus on Omega 3 fats as much as you can as these help with metabolism and brain-power alike.
Step 3 to Ripped Abs: Cut the Carbs – I don’t want you to remove carbs altogether, but reducing your carbohydrate intake (particularly those found in grains, cereals, and potatoes) will have a big impact on seeing your abs. Eat more of them in the morning, and eat less as your day goes on. When you do eat carbs, make sure you eat whole grain options only. My article on How Much Carbs Per Day to Lose Weight would be a good one for you if you still have questions on this topic.
Step 4 to Ripped Abs: Work Your Core – Now that you have the basics down, you can start targeting your gym efforts on your abs. I recommend doing a few abdominal and core exercises every other day, or doing longer focused core workouts twice a week. This all depends on your schedule. Check out my recent article on the best exercises for six pack abs.
Step 5 to Ripped Abs: Hit the Weights – Unfortunately, doing ab exercises alone won’t be enough. You need to think seriously about your weight training efforts, and increase your overall muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have, the more fat you’ll burn when at rest. This means leaner and more toned abs, and the Workouts and Training category in the navigation of this site has hundreds of workout ideas so no excuses on that front!
Step 6 to Ripped Abs: Boost Your Metabolism – There are a number of foods you can eat that will boost your metabolism and help you burn even more fat off your waistline, which is key to showing off all your hard work at the gym. You really have to take diet seriously if you want to get ripped, sexy abs. Some great metabolism-boosting foods include NOW Green Tea Extract, NOW Astragalus, and these Optimum Fish Oil Softgels.
Step 7 to Ripped Abs: Suppress Your Appetite – This is the last resort when it comes to getting a toned midsection. If you’re still looking for that extra boost, try a natural appetite suppressant like Hydroxycut South African Hoodia. It’s effective for reducing your calorie intake and helping you get totally ripped!
